Report on the 1st International Conference on Engineering Science and Innovative Technology

Yoshikazu HIGA, Dept. Mech. Sys. Engng., NIT, Okinawa College

The 1st International Conference on Engineering Science and Innovative Technology (ESIT2014) was held in the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort, Krabi, Thailand from 8 to 10 April 2014. Krabi is a southern province on Thailand and a popular beach destination at the Andaman Sea. The access to Krabi is good because there is a daily airplane from Bangkok. The flight from Bangkok is only 1 hour.

The conference was organized by King Mongkut's University of North Bangkok (KMUTNB), which signed a memorandum of understanding with our College. The conference chairperson Prof. Rattanakorn Phadungthin was flanked by the International Committee whose 22 members came from 4 countries. The conference program was structured with a two-day oral presentation containing opening address and three keynote lectures, and then a one-day excursion. According to the conference proceeding containing over 500 pages, the number of papers was 79 reports corresponding to Automotive Engineering(22), Mechanical Engineering(26), Mechatronics Engineering(6), Electrical and Electronics Engineering(7), Computer Science(10), Signal and Image Processing(8). Especially, there were many presentations by doctor candidates and master course students in Thailand. Unfortunately, there was no student from Japan, though.

The two participants from Japan were Prof. Shimojima and I. Our presentations were scheduled on the second day, and my presentation title was "A Step Size Dependence on the Visualization of Crystallographic Defects using SEM/EBSD". In order to visualize the crystallographic defect using SEM/EBSD scheme, the curvature and dislocation density tensor associated with spatial gradient was calculated. The dislocation density maps corresponding to the crystallographic defects became obtainable using EBSD scheme. The farewell reception and closing ceremony where Outstanding Papers Award was also presented was held on the beach side of the hotel in the evening after the conference ended. We have fully enjoyed a gorgeous dinner with a really wonderful sunset, and have taken great pleasure in traditional dance and music in Thailand. Incidentally, the 2nd International Conference on Engineering Science and Innovative Technology (ESIT2016) will be held in the Angsana Laguna Phuket, Phuket, Thailand from 21 to 23 April 2016. We have already submitted our abstract and are looking forward to attending the conference! The past and next conference information is shown in following web site; http://esit.cit.kmutnb.ac.th/
